Black truffle results in Devon, UK

We have just finished the yearly analysis of the root system of our winter truffle (Tuber melanosporum) plantation in Devon, UK. The results were excellent, with 80% of the 3-5cm root samples showing a thriving truffle fungus. The results are extremely encouraging. Whilst most of the UK has a suitable climate for the summer truffle, it has previously been thought that the UK climate is unsuitable for the winter truffle. These early indications suggest that it may be possible to grow this species outside of its natural habitats.
