The 11^th Napa Truffle Festival in California, got off to an exciting start when Alana McGee of the Truffle Dog Company visited a young orchard in the area, for the first time, the day before the festival. Run by the American Truffle Company (ATC) and planted with Tuber melanosporum inoculated trees, Alana and her dog Lolo unearthed over 1lb of truffle from 4yr old English oak trees.

This is relatively early for an orchard to begin production, and the owner (pictured) was thrilled. Robert Chang, of ATC added “this shows that good orchard management really does pay dividends and to harvest the day before our festival kicks off, was great timing”.

The 2023 Napa Truffle Festival, the premier truffle festival in the US, celebrated all things truffles with a series of fun events. These included learning session, competitions, cooking demos, amazing dinners by Michelin star chefs (including visiting chefs from as far afield as Italy) and multi-course lunches at partner wineries.

With a huge amount of truffle used over the festival weekend, participants were also treated to a visit to a truffle orchard at Raymond Vineyards alongside lots of wine-tasting experiences.
