After a recent surge of interest for this species of truffle, with more details in our recent article - https://plantationsystems.com/desert-truffles - MSL are happy to announce that shrubs inoculated with the desert truffle (Terfezia boudieri) are now available.

Although not technically classed as true truffles, desert truffles are typically harvested around this time of year from countries with hot and dry summers, ranging from Iran to Spain. These underground fungi are also at home in climates unsuitable for European truffle cultivation, such as dry desert conditions.

Desert truffles typically command relatively low prices, in the range of 30-100EUR/Kg and their flavour is less powerful than many European truffles but they have a long history of use in their host countries.
With a much milder flavour and aroma than the European truffles, and often with a spongy texture, they are quite often used cooked whole in soups and stews and have a promisingly large market demand.
