An iconic species, widely depicted in fairytales and popular literature – often found growing with Boletus edulis. Note, this is a toxic species and should only be grown for ornamental reasons. This is a mycorrhizal fungus that lives in symbiosis with the plant host, and is tolerant of a range of soil types and climates. A key species in our research projects, the fly agaric likely has an affinity for neutral or acidic soils.
